Helen’s Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides mental health, counseling, peer support, rental and transportation services to individuals and families from indigent communities. It was founded in 2009 by individuals motivated to rehabilitate substance abuse victims and create a positive recovery and growth roadmap. Since then, it has grown to incorporate full case management. We help ex-offenders looking for ways to reintegrate into society, struggling single moms, bright kids working with limited resources and veterans with mental health problems.
Our mission is to provide hope to communities. We want to see family stability, health access, and positive community change. Thus, we strive to provide solution focused social support and resources with excellence in quality, service and access.
Mission Statement
To bring hope, back to communities.
Purpose
Our purpose is to provide stability and solution-focused social support to individuals and families. At Helen's Project, we understand that individuals and communities go through life-altering phases like negative health diagnoses, unemployment, divorce, and incarceration of family members. For those in immediate need, we provide resources such as mental health counseling, transportation, ex-offender work programs, and food assistance. We want individuals to realize and act on their potential. This potential can only be realized in a stable home and work environment.
History
Helen’s Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides mental health, counseling, peer support, rental and transportation services to individuals and families from indigent communities. It was founded in 2009 by individuals motivated to rehabilitate substance abuse victims and create a positive recovery and growth roadmap. Since then, it has grown to incorporate full case management. We help ex-offenders looking for ways to reintegrate into society, struggling single moms, bright kids working with limited resources and veterans with mental health problems.
For the past few years, Helen’s Project has worked with health and social services entities like Child Protection Services, Parkland Hospital, Baylor Scott and White, and University Health Systems San Antonio. Through referrals and active engagement with these organizations we have helped stabilize families and provided means for livelihood transformation. We have also worked with law enforcement authorities in our rehabilitation and safe communities programs.
Clients who have been through our case management programs have moved on to gainful employment, improved relations with families and communities, and reduced incidences of reliance on emergence services. In the past year alone, we witnessed 9 families going through positive changes from a father seeking help with PTSD and reduced reports of domestic disturbances to a homeless female elder finally reuniting with family.
